London Fashion Week SS17 // J.JS.Lee, School of Thought
There’s tulle and there’s tulle. It doesn’t just come in one form. Unlike Molly Goddard’s dressing up box or Simone Rocha’s dramatic floral tulle gowns, this collection by J.JS.Lee is impossibly light, airy and teasingly delicate. Ghostly almost. There’s only one word for this, “ethereal”. I’m in love. Of all the collections from London Fashion Week this season, this one speaks to me the most.
According to designer Jackie, the J.JS.Lee woman is not one to make a lot of noise. After all, those who shout the loudest are silenced first. Instead she’s more of a thinker, a deliberator, a philosopher. She lets her style and her success do the talking. She is quiet but strong, introverted yet creative, modest and independent. This particular collection is inspired the guise of the schoolgirl, the academic. Seemingly polite, but quietly breaking the rules…..and who knows, she could be secretly leading a revolution. Better not underestimate her. To me, this collection is a great celebration of women and their subtle power, and it brings together some of my favourite shapes and textures. Expect wispy, barely-there transparent materials, splaying dresses, thought-provoking silhouettes, and fun, playful layering.
